POM applications for injection-molded POM include high-performance engineering components such as small gear wheels, eyeglass frames, ball bearings, ski bindings, fasteners, gun parts, knife handles, and lock systems. The material is widely used in the automotive and consumer electronics industry.
POM is characterized by its high strength, hardness and rigidity to −40 °C. POM is intrinsically opaque white because of its high crystalline composition but can be produced in a variety of colors.[3] POM has a density of 1.410–1.420 g/cm3.
POM is a smooth, shiny, hard, dense material, pale yellow or white, with thin walls that are translucent.
POM has high strength, stiffness, good elasticity and good wear resistance. Its excellent mechanical properties, specific strength up to 50.5MPa, specific stiffness up to 2650MPa, very close to the metal.
POM is not resistant to strong acid and oxidant, and has certain stability to enoic acid and weak acid.
POM has good solvent resistance, and can be resistant to hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ethers, gasoline, lubricating oil and weak base, and can maintain considerable chemical stability at high temperature.
POM has poor weather resistance.
Widely used in machinery, instrumentation, automotive parts, electrical and electronic, railway, home appliances, communications, textile machinery, sports and leisure products, oil pipes, fuel tanks and some precision engineering products.
