What is PEEK?
Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a thermoplastic aromatic polymer material. It is a kind of special engineering plastic with excellent performance, especially showing super strong heat resistance, friction resistance and dimensional stability. It is widely used in aerospace, military, automobile, medicine and other fields.
Basic PEEK performance
PEEK has high mechanical strength, high temperature resistance, impact resistance, flame retardant, acid and alkali resistance, hydrolysis resistance, abrasion resistance, fatigue resistance, radiation resistance and good electrical properties.
It is the highest grade of heat resistance in special engineering plastics.
Long-term service temperature can be from -100 ℃ to 260℃.
PEEK plastic raw materials have superior dimensional stability characteristics. The environment with large temperature and humidity changes has little impact on the size of PEEK parts, and the PEEK injection molding shrinkage rate is small, which makes the dimension accuracy of PEEK parts much higher than that of general plastics, which can meet the requirements of high dimensional accuracy under working conditions.
PEEK has prominent heat - resistant hydrolysis characteristics.
In the environment of high temperature and high humidity water absorption is very low, similar to nylon and other plastics due to water absorption and the size of obvious changes.
PEEK has excellent toughness and fatigue resistance, comparable to alloys, and can be used for a long time in demanding working environments. To replace steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, ptFE and other high-performance materials, improve the performance of the machine at the same time greatly reduce the cost.
PEEK has good security. The UL test results of the material show that PEEK's flame retardation index is Grade V-0, which is the optimal grade of flame retardation. PEEK's combustibility (ie, the amount of smoke produced during continuous combustion) is the lowest of any plastic.
PEEK's gas incapability (the concentration of gas produced when decomposed at high temperature) is also low.
PEEK's history
PEEK is the material at the top of the plastic pyramid, and few companies in the world have mastered the polymerization process.
PEEK was developed by ICI in the 1970s. Because of its outstanding mechanical properties and processing properties, it became one of the most outstanding special engineering plastics.
China's PEEK technology started in the 1980s. After years of hard research, Jilin University developed the PEEK resin synthesis process with independent intellectual property rights. Not only has the product performance reached the foreign PEEK level, but also the raw materials and equipment are all based in China, effectively reducing the production cost.
At present, China's PEEK industry is relatively mature, with the same quality and output as foreign manufacturers, and the price is far lower than the international market. What needs to be improved is PEEK's variety richness.
Victrex was a subsidiary of Britain's ICI until it was spun off.
It became the world's first PEEK manufacturer.
The application of PEEK
1. Aerospace applications: replacement of aluminium and other metals for aircraft parts, for rocket battery slots, bolts, nuts and components for rocket engines.
2. Application in electronic field: insulation film, connector, printed circuit board, high temperature connector, integrated circuit, cable coil skeleton, insulation coating, etc.
3. Applications in automotive machinery: automotive bearings, gaskets, seals, clutches, brakes and air conditioning systems. Nissan, NEC, Sharp, Chrysler, GENERAL Motors, Audi, Airbus and others have started to use the material in large quantities.
4. Applications in the medical field: artificial bones, denture implant base, medical devices that need to be used repeatedly.
